Tolkien influenced a lot in this world. Music as well. Let's see how many bands or performers there are who were influenced by J.R.R. If you know of anyone, post them here, including albums and stand-alone songs or compositions.

Looks like no one is in for music here. Ok.

There's a band named Cruachan, that plays Celtic metal (you know, something like doom metal + woman vocals + various Celtic instruments). In their album "The Middle Kingdom" they have a song entitled "Fianna", the verse is from Tolkien's "Lament for Gandalf" (the one in Lothlorien). Though some words and names have been changed to Celtic mythological. Still, a good band.

I've jsut heard that a band named Brobdingnagian Bards is going to play at the LOTR Oscars after-party, or something like that. This band became famous at MP3.com by submitting a lot of their samples, including "Tolkein*: Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit" (* it's their error, not mine). After that they even produced the whole album on Tolkien.
I know that tastes differ, but, hell, those guys can't play.

Anyone heard of Jason Ward?
I only heard two of his compositions: In the Hills of Ireland and Dancing in Lothlorien. Nice instrumental (electronic, probably) stuff. Not worth listening to every day, though.

Well, I'm not much for LotR style music. It's good for backround, but for just listening to music I need something more upbeat. Oh, but I love the song "Concerning Hobbits" and also the one Merry and Pippin were singing when they were dancing on the table!

I believe this thread is for bands and performers influenced by Tolkien, not for music from movies influenced by Tolkien.

Anyway, there's a band named Blind Guardian. They play good power metal. Earlier they had some songs on "The Hobbit" and "LOTR". But then they made their almost best album -"Nightfall in Middle-earth". Why almost best? Well, because they had great things before, and since then they haven't made anything amazing.

The whole album is based on "The Silmarillion", and is dedicated to Tolkien. Some compositions are instrumental, some are songs, and the other are just narrations. The title song is, I think, the best one.

If you're in for speed music, get this album.

Now the time has come for the greatest (and darkest) of bands, influenced by Tolkien. It's Summoning. Two guys from Austria create an unbelievably beautiful epic black metal, entwining it with the lyrics form Tolkien's poems. Although they use electronic music a lot, it is still good. Now, once in a while I will publish reviews of their albums. If you are a true Tolkienite, get these albums.
